Musing of the Day: Miu Miu Bow Clogs

I have a habit of stalking designer shoes online (luckily for my wallet I have never acted on it…unless the Missoni Converse count but who remembers that?).  I successfully made it through the YSL Tribute sandal craze and avoided the Diane Von Furstenburg Opal Crisscross Wedge long enough to find something new to resist - Miu Miu’s Bow Clogs.  The crazy thing is that I do not even like clogs!  But in sandal form they are actually everything I have been looking for lately:

  • They come in brown, which is my neutral of choice for spring and summer since you can wear it with anything and gives off a less serious vibe than black.
  • Have a high chunky heel (5 ½ inches on these!) that is daytime appropriate while giving me height and stability.
  • And boast a platform for 70s ready comfort. Thanks to the 2 inch platform the 5 ½ inch heel seems a lot less life threatening.

Besides anything with ruffles, I am a sucker for studs so of course since they are clogs Miu Miu had to throw some on there too. To top it all off the sandals also feature a cute bow for a touch of femininity. My credit cards are literally rolling over in my wallet begging me to cave. (more…)

Musing of the Day: Ombré Hair Color

If you want to take highlights to the next level, ombré hair will take you there.  The trendy style involves coloring your hair so that it is darkest at your roots and fades out into a lighter color as you work your way towards the ends (having multiple tones throughout = extra credit).  The transition should be seamless (if all goes as planned) so it looks more intentional as opposed to looking like you missed a couple of trips to the salon to get your roots touched up.  In the end you should end up with a bohemian chic mane perfect for ushering in the warm months ahead.  It has been popping up on some of the most stylish celebs in the scene and needless to say, I need it in my life. I was invited to meet Fred Allard, the creative director of Nine West, who helped me pick out the styles featured in the video and told me what the trends are for Spring/Summer 2010. Check out a list of keywords, inspired by my conversation with him, of what to expect:

Check out my Nine West haul above that ended up being courtesy of Nine West (I thought I was just there to see what new styles Nine West was launching and trying on my faves for the video and to my surprise they were gifted to me. It was a total surprise so a million zillion thank yous to them. Of course, for the FTC police out there, all of the statements made in the video are solely my opinion and I did not receive any additional consideration for the video besides the shoes and clutch shown).

I need to recreate this ripped jean-fishnet-ankle boots look now! Rihanna was spotted in New York City this week in this rocker outfit. She is wearing boyfriend jeans but I’m thinking about getting a pair of ripped skinny jeans in my version of the look.

Trend: Partially Shaved Head

Recently Bad Boy records artist Cassie caused a stir on the internet when she released pictures of her half shaved head via Twitter. While people shaving half of their hair off is nothing new, I became concerned that this may become a trend in local neighborhoods when a few days later La La Vazquez (former MTV VJ/NBA star Carmelo Anthony’s wife) joined the club.

Essie Joins the Matte Nails Trend

I recently did a post on the matte nails trend that will be taking over this fall with brands like OPI and Zoya releasing nail polishes with this interesting finish.

I was not surprised when I heard Essie was releasing matte about you matte finisher.  This polish allows you to give any polish in your collection the coveted matte finish. I love the idea of only having to get one polish to achieve this look.
