I could not wait to try on Golden Gaze Mineralize Eye Shadow from MAC’s Semi Precious collection so why not put that on film? I paired it with a purple crease because you only live once. Enjoy!

I am only one week deep into my 30-day YouTube challenge, where I will attempt to post one video per day starting July 1st, and I am proud of myself for posting 6 videos in the first 10 days of the month. I am not sure how the rest of the month will fare since I am going on vacation for a week starting on July 25th to visit my family that lives near Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, where there are no words for how many years it takes to load a single web page. My sister assures me that it is still possible to have decent internet access, since she does not intend to spend a day without connectivity, through some shady arrangement that involves bringing in a wire through our bedroom window.
Let’s save the worrying for later and let’s recap what I have posted so far:
Makeup Haul: MAC Bloggers’ Obsessions Collection
My purchases from the collection created by beauty blogging heavy hitters.
Shoe Haul: Waren by Steven
I have worn these twice and the verdict is that these were great for wearing to a BBQ but not so great for commuting.
Beauty Obsessions: Top 10 MAC Lipsticks
My most used lipsticks from their permanent range of colors. Bonus: my favorite limited edition color is Brave New Bronze from the Style Warrior collection. It is a rosy nude that does not wash me out when I am at my pasty best and also works when I am tan.
Nail Tutorial: Sally Hansen Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips
The nail polish strips make DIY manicures more convenient since you need zero dry time.
Hair Tutorial: Dry Shampoo
I emptied half of the can of dry shampoo on my scalp to make sure I got my money’s worth, just in case the spray nozzle stopped working before the next use.
Seventeen Ultimate Guide to Style Inspired Hair Tutorial
Seventeen sent me their new Ultimate Guide to Style book for review and I was inspired to do my ode to Gwen Stefani hair style that I used to rock in high school. I can’t do a Gwen look without the obligatory red lip so I wore on Stila’s Long Wear Liquid Lip Color in Fiery, which has been a hit in the video’s comments.
Coming up this week:
I have a makeup tutorial on deck featuring a Mineralize Eye Shadow from MAC’s Semi Precious collection and would also like to share the handful of items purchased from the launch.
The moment I heard about MAC’s Bloggers’ Obsession collection I could not contain my excitement because isn’t it every MAC lover’s dream to create their own collection? 8 lucky beauty bloggers lived it and got to create an eye shadow or lipglass. Check out the video above to see what I picked up and to hear my top picks.

P.S. This is my first video for Erin from Scandalous Beauty’s 30-day YouTube challenge! I will attempt to post a new video every day for the next 30 days. It will definitely be a challenge but I am excited to try.
June is here, which means that wedding season is in full swing. I wore the wedding-worthy look above in the haul video I filmed for The Makeup Show and so many of my viewers requested it that I had to give you a tutorial.
Bridal adjustments
For a daytime ceremony, I would keep the eye liner thin and as close to the lash line as possible since I prefer a more natural look. Right before an evening reception add another layer of liner and smoke it out as demonstrated in the video. Speaking of liners, make sure to use a waterproof version unless you are going for Beyonce in the video for Why Don’t You Love Me? P.S. You shouldn’t! Just to be safe top the smoked out liner with a charcoal gray shadow for extra staying power and dimension.
This look would work for a guest as well and while we are at it, why limit this look to a wedding? It would be a great look to keep in your arsenal for any other special occasion such as a birthday, prom or graduation party.

I cannot help what I like. I finally figured out a new setup that I wanted to try for filming and decided to record a tutorial to test it out. The result was a look reminiscent of what I always wear. Hence the name “Return of the Favorites.” Satin Taupe and Rule eye shadows frequently work their way into most of the looks I do off-camera, which means that they will go with almost everything you wear. Just switch the bottom liner to your standard black or another bright color that contrasts your outfit and you are good to go.

Little Girl Type, another Nail Lacquer from MAC’s limited edition Quite Cute collection (available on their site at press time), was the color of choice for this week’s manicure. I headed over to my usual Dashing Diva to get my nails done and received a proper/inaudible scolding for having the audacity to have gotten acrylics. Knowledge of how terrible they are for my natural nails was not enough to keep me away in a moment of desperation right before my trip to Florida. In any case, after spending close to 30 minutes with my fingertips hanging out in a pool of acetone (that also has to be good for me too lol), the acrylics finally melted off to reveal nails thin enough to be mistaken for a sheet of paper. I can’t complain about weak nails because that is the life I chose.
Enter Little Girl Type. The polish made my ragged nails look, dare I say, quite cute? (you know I can’t go a post without being a cornball ha ha). The “creamy pale lavender” color appears to skip between purple and pink depending on the lighting. I was worried about how Little Girl Type was going to turn out during the application since its thin consistency resulted in a very faint and streaky first coat. However, my manicurist was able to achieve full coverage with three layers of the polish. In my experience needing extra coats is typical for many MAC Nail Lacquers, but each layer will be so thin that you will not end up with a thick slab of polish on each nail in the end. Lastly, bonus points for being appropriate for work!

MAC’s limited edition Peppermint Patti nail lacquer, released two years ago, was where my mint colored nail polish craze all began. When I realized that it was true love it was too late for me to get a backup. Scrambling to find something similar, China Glaze did me a favor last year by rolling out Refresh Mint and the love affair was just as strong (or perhaps stronger) than it was with Peppermint Patti. This year Mischievous Mint, from MAC’s Quite Cute collection, appeared just in time for me to wear during my week-long stay in the sunshine state (that should be renamed the broiler state). It looks minty green indoors and looks a little bluer under the sun. If the amount of times I have stared at my hands is any indication, Mischievous Mint and I are going strong. I will be revisiting this polish again this season and the next.

Hello orange! The video above is for those looking for another way to wear Paparazz-She Mega Metal Shadow from MAC’s limited edition Peacocky collection. Don’t have Paparazz-She? No sweat, MAC’s Amber Lights eye shadow gives me the Paparazz-She feeling without leaning towards traffic cone territory. I drew inspiration from RuPaul‘s fabulous makeup in the promo for RuPaul’s Drag Race. I can’t get over how great he looks in drag! RuPaul never disappoints me with his makeup. Definitely makes me want to step my game up.

There was one reason I was excited for the MAC + Mickey Contractor collection — the Select Moisturecover Duo. Before heading over to the store for the Peacocky collection, I took a look at how Mickey Contractor’s collection was doing on MAC’s website. I was surprised to see that the concealer was already sold out, along with a few other items. My anxiety kicked up a notch but was relieved when I found that the concealer was still in stock at my local store. What made this concealer special to me is that it contains two color correctors in shades perfect for experimenting with covering up my mother’s hyper-pigmentation and the moisturizing formula is also great for mature skin. I also ended up picking up the two blushes from the collection; Sur is a great rosy everyday blush and Gana works as a frosty light gold highlighting shade sans glitter. I love using orange as a crease color in many of my looks so I picked up Saffron Eye Shadow, which is described as a “deep coral caramel.” Saffron is done in their Satin finish that is usually a dream when it comes to blending. Lastly, I picked up a Matte lipstick called Mehr, a beautiful neutral pink that is going to become a go to for wearing to work. Most of the collection is gone from the website, but you may be able to track some of these items down at a MAC store. Checkout swatches after the jump:
