MAC Seriously Hip

Seriously Hip (Limited Edition – Style Black Collection)

Description: Black with gold particle pearl

Finish: Frost

MAC Seriously Hip

One Coat (no base coat or top coat)

MAC Seriously Hip

Two Coats (no base coat or top coat)

Seriously Hip gives your nails that old gold look. The pearlized color in this nail lacquer  is more apparent when applied to the nails than in Baby Goth Girl. Gold is more of a contrast to black than purple.

One coat  was a little streaky. Two coats gave me perfect coverage. MAC has definitely stepped it up in their Nail Lacquer department. The no more than two coats needed didn’t stop after the Jin Soon Choi for MAC Fall 2009 Collection.

I plan on glitzing up this polish with some gold accessories. Looks like I won’t be wearing plain black nail polish this season.

MAC Holiday/Winter 2009 Collections

30 Sep

I was on Twitter today and found out that one of my favorite sites to stalk MAC Collections, Temptalia, posted several  blog entries today on upcoming MAC Holiday/Winter 2009 Collections. Check out my thoughts below and click on the names of the collection for more details (list of products and images when available) over at Temptalia.

Holiday 2009 Collections:

Magic, Mirth, & Mischief Colour Collection – This collection has so many lip and eye products to choose from. I’m excited for the Cremesheen Glass repromotes. I have Ever So Rich. Although they have little color pay-off,  I love the vanilla aroma without the stickiness, and even after the gloss wears off my lips still feel moisturized. The collection contains some new Mineralize Eye Shadow Duos and Mineralize Blush for those mineralize fans out there. There will also be 3 new Dazzleglasses. Release Date: October 15th, 2009

Magic, Mirth, & Mischief Eye/Lip Kits – This portion of the massive holiday collection contains 8 mini palettes for the lips, eyes, and face. Mini palettes tend to collect dust in my drawers but are great gifts for makeup junkies always on the road.  Release Date: October 15th, 2009

Magic, Mirth, & Mischief Lip/Eye Bags – The lip bags sound cute with a coordinating lipstick, dazzleglass and lip pencil in each set. The eye bags contain a fluidline, pigment, mascara, and an eyeliner brush. This portion also contains the brush sets that I constantly warn people about. Do not expect the same quality you get from a full size brush. The brushes are mass produced. The bristles are not cut the same and do not feel as gentle on the face. I got an angle brush last year in a set that was to rough even on my brows. There are some MAC holiday brush set defenders out there that did not agree with my comments in the past and to them I say this is my opinion and that you have obviously not tried their full size counterparts to make that assertion. If you have experienced a MAC full size  brush you will consider the holiday sets a downgrade. The brushes may be cute but are good for touch-ups at best. Some of the brushes are decent (168SE and 190SE for example) but the collective are a lesson in you get what you pay for. Save the $49.50 and buy a full size brush or two. Release Date: October 15th, 2009

Exclusive Holiday Kits/Sets – MAC will also be releasing 2 kits, one of which will be exclusive to Nordstrom and the other to MAC Stores. Available everywhere will be a Viva Glam Lip Kit and their Kids Helping Kids collection to help their HIV/AIDS initiatives. Release Date: October 15th, 2009

Mischief Makers Collection - This collection features sets of miniature liplasses/lustreglasses and pigments/glitters. Magnetique lipglass, one of the lip colors I was obsessed with this year, will be repromoted in one of the sets. The understated Instant Gold lustreglass is also a personal favorite that will be included in the same set. Release Date: November 5th, 2009

Jin Soon Choi for MAC for Fall 2009

24 Aug

MAC is killing us with all of these collections! Launching this Thursday, August 27th, 2009, at MAC stores/counters is Jin Soon Choi for MAC for Fall 2009

Jin Soon Choi for MAC for Fall 2009 is a collection of 6 limited edition polishes:

Jin Soon Choi for MAC for Fall 2009

Rich, Dark, Delicious – Rich blackened brown (Cream)

For Fun – Rich purple (Cream)

Dry Martini – Khaki olive green (Cream)

Jin Soon Choi for MAC for Fall 2009

Beyond Jealous – Blackened blue green (Cream)

Cool Reserve – Mid-tone grey lavender (Cream)

Dance All Night – Brick red (Cream)

Check out swatches here.

This collection contains the trendy greens and plums that everyone will be rockin’ this season. Also in the mix are the standard red and brown we usually see this time of year. Word on the street is that the formula for these Nail Lacquers is a little different. They  are more pigmented and you don’t need a ton of coats to get good coverage like other MAC Nail Lacquers.

I’m jonesing for Beyond Jealous and Cool Reserve. Do any of these catch your eye? Vote in the poll below:

Review: Make Up For Ever Aqua Black

23 Aug

MAC Fluidline vs. MUFE Aqua Black

When thinking about how to review Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Black Waterproof Cream Eye Shadow I could only think about comparing it against MAC’s Fluidline in Blacktrack. I find the two products virtually interchangeable. If you have Fluidline in Blacktrack you don’t need this in your life.

Check out my comparison below: (more…)

MAC Violet Trance vs. MUFE No. 92

15 Aug

MAC Violet Trance eye shadow, Make Up For Ever No. 92 eye shadow

MAC Violet Trance, MUFE No. 92

I got a few comments asking if MAC’s Violet Trance eye shadow that is being rereleased with the Make-Up Art Cosmetics on August 20, 2009 (previously released in the Balloonacy collection) is similar to Make Up For Ever’s No. 92 eye shadow.

You can tell from the photo that Violet Trance has more blue pigment. No. 92 has more red pigment when compared to Violet Trance. Both eye shadows have a matte finish. In my opinion, the difference between these shadows is significant.

The Make Up For Ever empty 10 eye shadow palette is available at Sephora.

To see how to depot MUFE eye shadows check out my video:

I am not picking favorites, but if you are, which shadow do you prefer?
