Haul: MAC Pret-A-Papier Collection

MAC Pret-A-Papier Collection

I stopped by the new MAC store in Times Square this week to check out the Pret-A-Papier collection.  I thought I was not going to pick up anything from the collection because it is for the neutral lovers out there, while I’m a lover of brights, but of course I still walked out with a few items.  My picks were: Dressmaker, Dressmaker Lipstick, Fold and Tuck Lipglass, Light Over Dark Mineralize Blush Duo and Tissueweight Eye Shadow.  Check out more pictures and swatches after the jump:   (more…)

Stepping Up Your Concealer Game

25 Oct

Covering up the under eye circles that I inherited was one of my greatest makeup struggles. I had cringe worthy cakeyness and creasing. Needless to say I was better off without concealer. But after months of experimentation, I have found the right cocktail to cure my concealer woes.

  • Step 1 – Eye Cream – We often neglect the delicate skin under our eyes. Moisturizing is the first step to flawless concealer application as well as protection. My favorite cream is MAC’s Fast Response Eye Cream. Besides ingredients to counteract puffiness and the appearance of under eye circles, this cream contains silicone that creates a smooth surface for concealer to lay smoothly.
  • Step 2 – Conceal – My favorite way to apply concealer is with my fingertips. I use my ring finger because it is the most gentle and will apply the least pressure. In addition, the warmth of your fingertips helps warm up the concealer and helps it sink into the skin. Take a small amount of concealer with your fingertip and lightly tap it only onto the areas with darkness. Work in small amounts and build coverage with thin layers. You will be surprised with how little you really need  to get good coverage. If you are using a dryer concealer, warm it up on your wrist or the back of your hand and then apply.
  • Step 3 – Set – Now that you have your circles concealed, it is time to lock it in. Before my concealer enlightenment, I used to just brush some powder on top of my concealer and go. Now that I am wiser I use a cosmetic wedge/sponge, load it with some face powder (my MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural), and press and roll the powder onto the concealer.

In just 3 steps I am under eye circle free. The best part? It lasts all day.

Check out some other methods and my favorite concealers below: (more…)

Solange in Honey Magazine

3 Oct

Solange Honey Magazine

Solange

Solange looks fabulous in the photographs for an interview with Honey Magazine. Solange is as fearless with her makeup as she is with her style. Not afraid to try different things, she pulls off the black lipstick beautifully. Fresh off my MAC Style Black Collection haul I wanted to show you that even though I am not brave enough to go there, black lipstick can be worn well.

Side note: those Cesare Paciotti boots are killer. Musing of the Day!

Charles Wade did the fierce styling in these photos. And celebrity makeup artist Jackie Gomez did the makeup that is worth heading over to the article to check out the rest of her looks.

Fabulous!

I am seriously in looove with Baby Goth Girl Nail Lacquer. I was looking forward to the Style Black Collection just for the nail polishes and I was not wrong. This season is not about boring nails. The fuchsia pearl, which actually looks like a burgundy color on the nails, in this polish will get my mother to stop asking me if I am in a cult this fall and winter ha ha ha.

All you need is two thin coats of this polish to get a streak-free look. The fuchsia pearl in the black polish looks subtle on the nails. The polish in the bottle looks like it may be glittery but it does not look that way when it is applied.

The polish is currently out of stock on www.maccosmetics.com but it says that is coming soon. So keep your fingers crossed if you missed out on the first round.
