MAC Fall Colour Collection Haul & Swatches

I thought MAC Me Over was MAC’s fall mega collection, that was until their Fall Colour collection hit the shelves.  It is enormous!  The collection was separated into three parts and it is definitely for those of us who love wearing vibrant colors.   There are plenty of items that have been repromoted and that are part of MAC’s permanent range so I had to double check that I was not repurchasing things that I already had in my collection.  Turns out that more than half of the items mentioned below were in my stash:

    MAC Posh Paradise Collection Haul

    My YouTube buddy girlcanpaint0412 is a Paint Pot fanatic and did an awesome review of the new Paint Pots released in MAC’s Posh Paradise collection.  Based on my shopping habits I don’t need much ecouragement but her video convinced me to pick up a few colors.  I was happy to see that the ones I wanted were still available at my MAC store since several were sold out online.  My favorite out of the bunch is Genuine Treasure.  It has been compared to Tempting eye shadow and Woodwinked (a big favorite) so that was a must have.  The  Paint Pot is tarnished-golden-sparkly deliciousness.   Nubile is like Painterly Paint Pot with some sheen.  I think it would be great for brides and personally as an everyday color all over the lid with a soft brown shadow to contour the crease.  Throw on some brows, mascara, soft cheeks and lips and I am ready for work.  Since I have brown eyes Half-Wild and Imaginary were mandatory additions to my haul.  Great for smokey eyes that will bring out my eye color.

    Rumor has it that this is a different formula but I have not had a chance to test them out to see if I notice any changes on how it applies and wears on the eyes.  From swatching they feel like they have more slip but still have great color payoff:

    Makeup Haul: MAC MAC Me Over Collection

    Yesterday I chose to burn some cash at my local MAC store where I picked up some products from their fall mega collection called MAC Me Over. I got all of the berry lipsticks in the collection, assuring me that I will not need any more for the rest of my life (not that it is going to stop me).     It is finally beginning to feel like Spring in NYC.  To celebrate I am sharing a recent splurge - these Hi-Top Chuck Taylors from the latest Converse x Missoni collaboration.  I am obsessing over the green/purple/black Missoni knit and white leather detailing that is perfect for pairing with a pair of denim cutoffs or white shorts.  You could also go crazy and wear them with anything that will please your color blocking/print mixing heart.  These sneakers are hard to find but I was able to order a pair from ALOHA RAG (click here to find other retailers).  They shipped from Hawaii and arrived at my doorstep within a few days just in time for my trip to Florida last month.   I could not wait to try them on and was pleasantly surprised that these luxe Converse kicks have a padded insole that make them a lot more comfortable than their more moderately priced classics (I learned that  my other Chuck’s were not made for walking the hard way).  I put them to the test and survived a full day at Magic Kingdom wearing them, although probably not the best idea if I wanted to keep them clean.     Can one have to many eye pencils/shadow bases in one’s life?  Of course not!  I was at Sephora recently and spotted Urban Decay’s new 24/7 Glide-On Shadow Pencils.  After spending some time trying the different colors, I was impressed with the color payoff and staying power.  If you want to blend these pencils you have to do it quickly, because once it sets you won’t be able to move it anywhere without anything short of a makeup remover.  Most of the pencils swatched smoothly; Midnight Cowboy was a little bumpy because of its glittery-ness.

    After a lengthy deliberation I picked up Morphine and Clinic.  Morphine is a cool lavender shade that brightens up my eyes so much it looks neon (if there is such a thing as neon lavender).  To break out of my lack of green eye shadow rut, I chose Clinic – I loved the shiny metallic finish and deepness in tone perfectly suited for a colorful smokey eye.

    Check out some suggestions on how to try the pencils below:

    • Liner – while you won’t get a thin line with these pencils (unless a little trickery is involved*) the thicker line is a good jumping off point for a smokey eye.  Choose a dark color, line your upper and lower lash lines, then blend away.  Because of the setting time with these particular pencils, apply and blend immediately on one eye before starting on the second.  Pencil in one hand, brush in the other and go.
    • All over lid color -  pick up one of the brighter colors for your lid area, pile on the mascara (add some lashes for extra credit) to balance the eye and keep the rest of your look in neutral territory.  The result will be a look that will be on trend this spring/summer.  Check out the beauty look from the Christian Dior RTW Spring 2o11 collection for inspiration (skip the red lip to make it wearable, or go for it - you only live once!). 
    • A base to make your existing shadows pop -  You can layer a shadow over a pencil of a similar color or over the black liner (Barracuda) to deepen a metallic jewel tone eye shadow.  In addition to intensifying colors,  layering is key to helping your eye looks last all day.
