Polished: OPI x Nicki Minaj

23 Oct

Owly Images

I was so excited when pictures of OPI’s Nicki Minaj collection popped up on my Twitter timeline.  Nicki had already clued us in on the line on her verse in Drake’s new single Make Me Proud:

I’m the realest deal

The best legal team so the deals is ill

It’s Mac, OPI and a fragrance too

Apparel, I’m dominating every avenue

Owly Images

Polish names: Super Bass Shatter, Metallic 4 Life, Save Me, Fly, Did It On ‘Em and Pink Friday

From the picture of the nail polishes I can already tell that I want them all.  My favorites are Metallic 4 Life, Did It On ‘Em and Pink Friday.  The collection is dropping in January and I will be stalking the internet for these items like I stalked MAC’s website for the Pink Friday lipstick.

Does the collection have your “heartbeat running away?”  Share in a comment below.

Musing of the Day: Aaliyah

25 Aug

Can’t believe it has been 10 years since Aaliyah‘s tragic death.  Today I was thinking about when I was in elementary school and started getting into MTV and music videos.  I remember the first Aaliyah video I ever saw.  It was “One in a Million” and from then on I was hooked.  Besides Aaliyah’s catchy music I was obsessed with her style.  I switched from parting my bangs down the middle to side-swept bangs.  And for someone who cannot get enough of skinny jeans these days it is funny to think that I begged my mom for a pair of baggy jeans.  I was terrified of asking my parents for anything when I was a kid so it was a pretty big deal.  She took me to a store called Cookies, which is in the Flatbush area of Brooklyn, and I went to the boys section to get the jeans I needed to emulate her look.  I was so excited to wear them to school!  Today I keep away from the jeans.  However, I am still rockin’ the side-swept bangs and developed an interest in her makeup (of course).  My favorite makeup is the purple smoky eye paired with red lips in her “We Need a Resolution” video.  Who says you can only play up one of your features at a time?  She definitely pulled it off.

Even though Aaliyah is no longer with us she is still living on through her music.  Many years later, I still stop and listen to it whenever her songs pop up on my iPod.

Mid-Afternoon Break: May 6th, 2010

6 May

Had lunch at Schnippers again with the bf this time. I had some yummy mac and cheese and he had a bacon cheeseburger with a side of mac and cheese. I know, crazy, like the bacon cheeseburger isn’t one heart attack, but he is one of those people that can eat anything and not gain a pound.

Someone on Twitter asked me today what kind of diet I was on and I replied (more…)

Music Video: Bad Romance – Lady Gaga

11 Nov

Gaga really brought the avant garde in this video. The makeup. The hair. The fashion. Alexander McQueen! The style was ferocious and unapologetic. Just like love in a bad romance.

Love this song by the way. It is so catchy!

Music Video: Who’s Gonna Save My Soul – Gnarles Barkley

29 Oct

Here is another Halloween music video pick. A visual representation of pure heartbreak. Never saw anything quite like it before.

Note: This video is not for the squeamish. You’ve been warned.

Music Video: I Cut Like A Buffalo – The Dead Weather

26 Oct

Check out my first Halloween music video pick. I spotted this video on MTV a few days ago and it immediately caught my attention. The song is as dark and creepy as the video. From the crimson haired women with butcher knives ready to “cut like a buffalo” to the strategic lighting. And yes that is Jack White from the White Stripes.

Music Video: Oh Yea – Yellow

16 Oct

This year I discovered the FX comedy It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. I am addicted to this hilarious cast of characters and their antics. Season 4 is still in my Netflix Queue but was glad to catch an episode last week from that season titled “Sweet Dee has a Heart Attack.” I could not stop laughing at Mac and Charlie singing “Day Bow Bow.” Well “Day Bow Bow” is actually this 80s song called “Oh Yea” by Yellow.

Anyway, check out the music video above that is disturbing and hysterical all at the same time. It’s horrifyingly terrific. Cannot get the “chick, chickah-chick-aaahhh” out of my head ha ha ha. Happy Friday!

Note: It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia comes on on Thursdays @ 10:00 PM EST on FX. You will laugh until you cry. Seriously. Danny Devito is in it. LOL

Music Video: La La La – LMFAO

15 Oct

This song makes me say “la, la la la” lol. Love the colors in this video even though it is so 80s. I’m not an Electronica girl but there is something a little hip-hop about this duo that sits well with me.

Solange in Honey Magazine

3 Oct

Solange Honey Magazine

Solange

Solange looks fabulous in the photographs for an interview with Honey Magazine. Solange is as fearless with her makeup as she is with her style. Not afraid to try different things, she pulls off the black lipstick beautifully. Fresh off my MAC Style Black Collection haul I wanted to show you that even though I am not brave enough to go there, black lipstick can be worn well.

Side note: those Cesare Paciotti boots are killer. Musing of the Day!

Charles Wade did the fierce styling in these photos. And celebrity makeup artist Jackie Gomez did the makeup that is worth heading over to the article to check out the rest of her looks.

Music Video: Poison – Bell Biv DeVoe

1 Sep

ThroOowback! This has to be in my top 10 favorite songs list. I’ll never get tired of listening and/or throwing it down on the dance floor to this song. “Never trust a big butt and a smile” ha ha ha.
