Lovinng this dress by Guess by Marciano in a vibrant color that can be dressed up or dressed down. And it has ruffles! The tricky thing about a ruffled dress is that it can make you look enormous. However, I do have one that fits nicely so its one of those styles where you won’t know if the fit will be flattering until you try it on.
Had lunch at Schnippers again with the bf this time. I had some yummy mac and cheese and he had a bacon cheeseburger with a side of mac and cheese. I know, crazy, like the bacon cheeseburger isn’t one heart attack, but he is one of those people that can eat anything and not gain a pound.
Someone on Twitter asked me today what kind of diet I was on and I replied (more…)
I am sooo tired! I don’t know why my body is not cooperating with me. “Hello body, I am at work, please don’t shut down.” I’ve made it a point to go to sleep early every night this week and yet no luck. The earlier I go to sleep, the more dead I wake up. The only thing keeping me going is listening to music on the Pandora Radio website. It is really cool. You type in the name of an artist or song and the site picks music that you may like based on the musical qualities of your selection. My Usher radio station is my favorite. Right now I’m listening to Melanie Fiona’s “It Kills Me.” Love that song. I don’t have that kind of drama in my life but I can’t help but sing along when the song comes on (right now I’m singing along on the inside, its casual friday at the office but not that casual ha ha ha).
Christina Aguilera’s new music video was released last night for the lead single of her upcoming album, Bionic, called “Not Myself Tonight.” Perez Hilton and other warmongers on Twitter are (more…)
You are close to making me take one step back in saving for my future condo with your Opal Crisscross Wedge Sandals.
Broke-fully yours,
Cindy
How hot are these sandals? I am loving these wedges but holy baby Jesus on the price tag. Quality does not come cheap ladies. I am slowly convincing myself that I need these in my life and that they would be an investment. Real leather, check. Sculpted wedge that gives the sandals a modern edge, check. Cute zipper down the back, check. They’ll hopefully last forever, check. High heel that won’t make you feel like an ant next to your bf (4.5″ heel with a 1″ platform), check. I’ll be adding to this mental list until I get my next pay check. I think I need another job just to finance my shoe habit ha ha ha. You can find these sandals at www.shopbop.com.
I managed to hunt down these limited edition Eugenia Kim for Target fedoras pictured above at a local Target. They are sold out on Target’s website, but I have 1 of each for sale on eBay. If you are interested, click here to visit the sale page for the green fedora and click here to visit the sale page for the black one. The sale ends on Sunday, May 2nd, 2010.
I visited the Sam Edelman section of Zappos this weekend and these babies have been stuck in my head. I love the unique combination of the snake print, the warm brown leather, and the beading. The zipper on the back gives it some extra sex appeal. The heel is 4 1/2″ high but don’t cringe yet because you get a little relief from its 3/4″ platform. They are sold out in my size (size 8 if the Sam Edelman folks are watching ha ha) so they will remain in my head.
I was invited to meet Fred Allard, the creative director of Nine West, who helped me pick out the styles featured in the video and told me what the trends are for Spring/Summer 2010. Check out a list of keywords, inspired by my conversation with him, of what to expect:
Tribal
Studs
Nautical
80s
Romantic
Satin
Pastels
Blue
Metallics
Rose Gold
Western
Check out my Nine West haul above that ended up being courtesy of Nine West (I thought I was just there to see what new styles Nine West was launching and trying on my faves for the video and to my surprise they were gifted to me. It was a total surprise so a million zillion thank yous to them. Of course, for the FTC police out there, all of the statements made in the video are solely my opinion and I did not receive any additional consideration for the video besides the shoes and clutch shown).
Styles mentioned in this video (in order of appearance):
Carley in Black Patent Leather – wearable during any season.
Chocolata in Black – great with skinny jeans.
Masqureder in Pink Multi – wear with a black dress or be daring and wear with another print.
Rhett Satin Envelope Clutch in Pink Multi
A big thanks to Nine West, Fred Allard, the Nine West PR girls, Attention!, Sarah for setting up the meeting and the shoot, and James for producing the video.
The first musing of the new year! I have been MIA from my blog, but trust me I am still stalking my favorite online shops and obsessing over those special pieces I would love to have (in my dreams at least ha ha ha). My latest victim is this aztec inspired House of Harlow necklace. The black version has been on my wish list for months but I am really digging its colorful sister. This piece would add some spice to any outfit, and with that price tag it had better add some spice for many years to come.
I always talk about investing in timeless pieces that you will wear forever. For work and life in general, one of the those staples are a pair of black leather pumps. The Tory Burch pair pictured above are a modern take on a classic, featuring a rounded toe and seam detailing. But la pièce de résistance is the classic Manolo Blahnik Blixa pump:
Jimmy Choo makes a similar pump but I am not a fan of the heel of the shoe. I don’t like heels that taper and then flare out at the end again. Christian Louboutin (whose shoes I love!) also makes classic black leather pumps, but I find that that the red soles are a little to pretentious for work. The Manolos are just right for me. The price tag is steep but I have started a “Manolo fund,” which is what I am calling my savings for the shoes. The money spent will be well worth it in terms of the quality and construction of the shoe and the classic pointed toe will never go out of style. I also won’t have to worry about the heel coming off mid stride or walking down a flight of steps (the latter being spoken from experience). These shoes are not a splurge, they are an investment.
Check out my first work outfit of the day video (above) inspired by The City’s Erin Kaplan in the December issue of Elle.
Outfit Details
Olive green sweater, J. Crew; black and grey striped tee, Banana Republic; black belt and gunmetal circle necklace, Express; tweed pants, American Eagle Outfitters; black pumps, Steve Madden.
Notes
The Banana Republic shirt looks black on film but is truly a grey and black thin-striped long sleeved tee. It is not on the website but I purchased this a week ago for about $19.99 in the Soho store (in NYC).
My American Eagle pants I purchased ages ago, but I found tweed pants on the Ann Taylor LOFT website. Click here to view. If you’re not a fan of tweed just substitute with a pair of solid grey or black trousers.
