The Makeup Show LA
Saturday, February 25, 2012 & Sunday February 26, 2012
I have Kardashian wedding fever and the only prescription is more coverage of The Makeup Show NYC! Take a break from wondering if Kim Kardashian’s 20.5 carat engagement ring weighs more than the petite reality TV starlet by checking out my haul video.

James Vincent, artists and models on stage at New York Groove
The Makeup Show was off the hook this year. It was bigger and badder than the year before and the year before that and allegedly the biggest ever in its 6 year run. I shopped, laughed, cried (almost), learned life lessons, connected with old friends and made new ones. Check out the highlights of my experience below:
Sneak Peek
I had the privilege of being invited to a preview hosted by James Vincent (Director of Education & Artist Relations for The Makeup Show) on the eve of the show where he gave us a rundown of what to expect. I already had high expectations with all of the incredibly talented artists and exhibitors that were scheduled to be there but I was floored when we were told that they were expecting over 6,000 attendees. That could be a small town! James also went over some of his favorite products that were going to be available at the show and the new Make Up For Ever Aqua Liner was one of his picks. I was excited that the liner was included because everyone has been raving about it and I was holding off from purchasing one until the show. OCC lip tars and Stila Convertible Colors were also in the mix. We were given a gift bag with his favorites so stay tuned for the full list of his picks on my upcoming video review on YouTube.
The Makeup Show NYC is less than two weeks away and to celebrate I am hosting a giveaway! One of you could receive one one-day ticket* for entry into The Makeup Show where can shop, learn, mix and mingle with beauty pros for the day of your choice (courtesy of The Makeup Show): either Sunday, May 15th or Monday, May 16th. To enter leave a comment on this post with the day you would attend if you were to win and the 3 exhibitors and/or speakers you would look forward to seeing the most (check out some of them below). The deadline to enter is Saturday, May 7th, 2011, at 11:59 PM (EST). The winner will be selected at random and will be notified via email on Sunday, May 8th. If I do not receive a response within 24 hours another winner will be selected. (more…)
It is that time of year again. Time to gear up for one of the events I am looking forward to the most this year–The Makeup Show NYC!
Location:
Metropolitan Pavilion
125 W 18th St., NYC
When:
Sunday, May 15th, 2011 – 9:00 am-6:00 pm
Monday, May 16th, 2011 – 9:00 am-5:00PM
Tickets:
Two day – $70 (advanced tickets-until May 12th)/$85 (at the door)
One day – $45 (advanced tickets-until May 12th)/$65 (at the door)
With only one month to go here are three reasons why beauty professionals and students should not miss the show:
1. Stock Up
The PRO-only (according to their website: “proof of professions, such as a business card, industry license, COMP card, etc or student status is required at the door prior to gain entry”) event is the place to be for makeup artists seeking to restock their kits since many (not all) exhibitors offer discounts and value packs. Some of this year’s exhibitors include:
Yves Saint Laurent – it is their first year at the show and I audibly gasped when I saw their name on the exhibitor list.
Face Atelier – they make an amazing foundation that is free of SPF, which is important if your worst nightmare is foundation that photographs white.
Inglot - make sure you camp out at the Metropolitan Pavilion if you plan on hitting up their booth. They offer discounts on their products, which many YouTube personalities rave about. I recently purchased some of their eye shadows and blushes and just from swatching I was impressed by their texture and color payoff. Needless to say it was a zoo last year and I don’t expect anything less this time around.
Make Up For Ever - From their amazing foundations to their high impact eye shadows, it is definitely a must see at The Makeup Show. Last year they had some great deals if you bought a certain quantity of particular items. Their booth is chaotic as well. Be prepared to wait on line.
2. Get Inspired
Learn a new trick or two and gain valuable insight in their Main Floor Seminars and Keynote and Business Forum from industry veterans such as Dany Sanz (founder and Artistic Director of Make Up For Ever), Billy B (celebrity makeup artist – does Lady Gaga ring a bell?), Sam Fine (celebrity makeup artist) and more. Hands on workshops are also taking place throughout the day at an additional fee.
3. Connect
Finally, don’t forget to bring your business cards! It is the perfect opportunity to meet and network with other members of the beauty community.

Store Hours: Mon.-Sat. 11:00 Am-8:00 PM; Sun. 12:00 PM-6:00 PM
The NARS Flagship Boutique opened on February 10th in New York City’s iconic West Village neighborhood. After reading the NYMag article featuring a slide show of the store’s interior, I am certain it will be a feast for the makeup fiend’s eye. I am a huge fan of the brand’s blushes and eye shadows and cannot wait to stop by and add a few more to my collection.

I was seething over not being able to attend the International Makeup Artist Trade Show (IMATS) in Los Angeles last year. My fury turned into joy a few weeks ago when I learned that IMATS was coming to New York this Spring. I have attended The Makeup Show in NYC for the past two years and if the floor plan is any indication, IMATS is going to be even bigger and badder! According to the IMATS website, the Los Angeles show had over 70 exhibitors last year and hopefully the New York market has the same attraction. Whether you are a new or established makeup artist or a beauty junkie (the event is open to the general public except for 2 hours on Sunday), the event will give you a chance to check out some of your favorite brands and explore others that are not easily accessible–all under one roof. Stila, Temptu and Inglot have already signed up and I’ll keep checking in on the site as the event gets closer for additional exhibitors. You can also pick up some great tips and advice at presentations from some of the beauty industry’s leading experts. There is still no word on who will be speaking at the show on the site but I will keep you posted.

While having dinner and catching up with Ramnari7 and LesleyKat last night, I found out that maybe I wasn’t the last person in the world to hear about this: NARS. Cosmetics. Boutique! Maybe the periods are a little dramatic but I’m excited! Not only will you be able to enjoy Magnolia cupcakes (still have not been there despite having gone to NYU for four years) and browse one of Marc Jacobs’ 100 stores (just kidding) on Bleecker St., NARS is joining the ranks for us to do some serious makeup damage. Besides the Boutique exclusives, hopefully they will have a larger selection closer to what is on their website than what is currently stocked at Sephora. *Fingers crossed*
16 years after François Nars launched NARS Cosmetics, we are excited to announce the location of the brand’s first flagship boutique!
Located at 413 Bleecker Street, in New York City’s West Village, the store will open Spring 2011 and will feature exclusive items to the location. Stay tuned, more information to come…
