Trend: Matte Nails

3 Jun

I like to wear bold nail polish (when I can get away with it), so it is no surprise that I am excited about this new trend: matte nail polish.

The nail technicians at the nail salons where I get my nails are stingy with the top coat anyway (huge pet peeve) so this trend will makes us both happy.

OPI and Zoya are launching matte nail polish collections in July. OPI claims that this formula is not as long wearing as its traditional formula, I wonder if that is true for the other brands that carry/will carry matte nail polish?

OPI is launching 6 of its most popular shades in the new finish, while the Zoya collection only features 3 shades.

I will take a look at these. Thanks! I never had a matte nail polish before.

By the way, Man Glaze also has a also matte black nail polish. That brand is marketed towards men, but women can wear it of course.

Cool, I’ve never heard of it. There are probably more brands out there that make them or will make them now that OPI and Zoya are coming out with a few.

Check out head2toebeauty.com, very cheap too, in fact they have all the pro brands really cheap! I buy all my nail stuff from this site.

Too bad I have the hardest problem painting my own nails. I don’t know why, but it is so hard. I thought buying some colors and going to the nail shop though.

I can’t paint my own nails either. I bring my nail polish to the nail shop and get them done there.

I’m a cheapie when it comes to polishes so I generally use colors from the Sinful Professional line and some of their polishes are matte…the other day I was wearing “dream on”…it didn’t dry shiny and I didn’t use a top coat I was so in love with the look of it.

Just a tip! I recently read in a magazine (Cosmopolitan for July i think..ehh not sure :s) that you can get these trendy matte nails with your regular polish. Just do your nails as normal, but instead of using like a shiny top coat, you have to use a good base coat ON TOP to achieve that matte finish.

That a great tip! I’ll add it to the end of the article.

Thanks! And just so you know, I tried this for myself with my regular OPI nail polish and I didn’t get a true matte finish. Oh well.. but if anyone else tries it and likes it, that’s great.
