Musings of a City Girl

Haul: Nine West

Posted by: DRBrooklyn730 on: February 18, 2010

I was invited to meet Fred Allard, the creative director of Nine West, who helped me pick out the styles featured in the video and told me what the trends are for Spring/Summer 2010. Check out a list of keywords, inspired by my conversation with him, of what to expect:

  • Tribal
  • Studs
  • Nautical
  • 80s
  • Romantic
  • Satin
  • Pastels
  • Blue
  • Metallics
  • Rose Gold
  • Western

Check out my Nine West haul above that ended up being courtesy of Nine West (I thought I was just there to see what new styles Nine West was launching and trying on my faves for the video and to my surprise they were gifted to me. It was a total surprise so a million zillion thank yous to them. Of course, for the FTC police out there, all of the statements made in the video are solely my opinion and I did not receive any additional consideration for the video besides the shoes and clutch shown).

Styles mentioned in this video (in order of appearance):

  1. Carley in Black Patent Leather – wearable during any season.
  2. Chocolata in Black – great with skinny jeans.
  3. Masqureder in Pink Multi – wear with a black dress or be daring and wear with another print.
  4. Rhett Satin Envelope Clutch in Pink Multi

A big thanks to Nine West, Fred Allard, the Nine West PR girls, Attention!, Sarah for setting up the meeting and the shoot, and James for producing the video.

Contest: Celebrate Natural Beauty with Bobbi Brown Cosmetics

Posted by: DRBrooklyn730 on: February 3, 2010

Bobbi Brown Cosmetics is launching a contest with their new campaign called Pretty Powerful. Enter for a chance to win a trip to New York and meet Bobbi Brown herself. Check out the details below:

This spring, Bobbi Brown Cosmetics is launching a campaign called Pretty Powerful, celebrating Bobbi’s belief that all women possess natural beauty, and with the right tools, are empowered to a higher level of pretty.  The campaign will feature real women, or “Friends of Bobbi,” and their before/after photos, videos and testimonials as the centerpiece content of the campaign, which will live on BobbiBrownCosmetics.com/prettypowerful.

As part of the campaign, Bobbi Brown will be launching a video contest: She wants to hear how you and your readers go from Pretty to Powerful using Bobbi Brown Cosmetics.  Now through February 9th, makeup devotees are invited to share their transformative stories and tips by submitting videos.

From the submissions, 15 finalists will be chosen and sent a personalized selection of BobbiBrown Cosmetics and the new Color Stripscollection to create their next Pretty Powerful video submission.  In March, the gallery of Pretty Powerful videos will be open for public voting on http://BobbiBrownCosmetics.com/prettypowerful.  For every vote cast in the Pretty Powerful contest, Bobbi Brown will donate $1 to Dress for Success*, an organization close to Bobbi’s heart that provides underprivileged women with interview suits and career development advice.

Bobbi will hand pick the three grand prize winners, who will be flown to New York for a master class and brunch with Bobbi!

So break out those cameras and tell Bobbi how you go from “Pretty to Powerful” for  a chance to win. Good luck!

Musing of the Day: House of Harlow 1960 Abalone Station Necklace

Posted by: DRBrooklyn730 on: January 21, 2010

House of Harlow 1960

Abalone Station Necklace

Color: Multi (more colors available)

Retail Price: $150

The first musing of the new year! I have been MIA from my blog, but trust me I am still stalking my favorite online shops and obsessing over those special pieces I would love to have (in my dreams at least ha ha ha). My latest victim is this aztec inspired House of Harlow necklace. The black version has been on my wish list for months but I am really digging its colorful sister. This piece would add some spice to any outfit, and with that price tag it had better add some spice for many years to come.

Work It Out: Investing in Classic Black Pumps

Posted by: DRBrooklyn730 on: November 30, 2009

Tory Burch

Hartley Pump

Color: Black (more colors available)

Retail Price: $295

I always talk about investing in timeless pieces that you will wear forever. For work and life in general, one of the those staples are a pair of black leather pumps. The Tory Burch pair pictured above are a modern take on a classic, featuring a rounded toe and seam detailing. But la pièce de résistance is the classic Manolo Blahnik Blixa pump:

Manolo Blahnik

Blixa

Color: Black

Retail Price: $575

Jimmy Choo makes a similar pump but I am not a fan of the heel of the shoe. I don’t like heels that taper and then flare out at the end again. Christian Louboutin (whose shoes I love!) also makes classic black leather pumps, but I find that that the red soles are a little to pretentious for work. The Manolos are just right for me. The price tag is steep but I have started a “Manolo fund,” which is what I am calling my savings for the shoes. The money spent will be well worth it in terms of the quality and construction of the shoe and the classic pointed toe will never go out of style. I also won’t have to worry about the heel coming off mid stride or walking down a flight of steps (the latter being spoken from experience). These shoes are not a splurge, they are an investment.
